What is web hosting?

When you visit a web site that web page has to be physically stored somewhere. Web hosting providers, like Educational Web Services, offer the space to store web pages. The space the pages are stored on is called a server. Leasing space on a server is comparable to leasing office space. For a monthly fee, a company resides in that space, and all maintenance is the responsibility of the vendor. As part of the lease, the company has access to additional services that would otherwise be a costly investment. Educational Web Services stores Web sites on its secure servers, enabling departments and organizations to affordably leverage the power of the latest in programming technology and redundancy over a high-speed network.

Educational Web Services specializes in Microsoft Active Server Page (ASP) and Microsoft FrontPageĀ® hosting. ASP is a Microsoft-created technology that enables web developers to run scripts and server components on the server, creating dynamic content and powerful web-based applications easily.

FrontPage® and FrontPage Extensions are Microsoft's platform which clients can easily manage and develop their web sites with one application seamlessly.

Infrastructure

Educational Web Services uses a redundant server architecture that means your site is supported in three ways: Redundant Servers, Redundant Drives, and Redundant Data.

Our infrastructure starts with not just one, but multiple web servers to host our clients. This means that even when one server is down the other server is still working to host your site

Each server is equipped with a RAID 5 disk array to ensure data integrity. This hard drive configuration is one of the best solutions available for data storage. RAID stands for Redundant Array of Individual Disks. In this configuration your data is spread over three or more hard drives.

Lastly your data is backed up to magnetic tape storage media each night and stored off site. In the event of a catastrophic event, this step ensures your data is secure and reduces the time needed to get you back up and running.

Educational Web Services uses DellĀ® web servers in the following configuration:
